Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about reliability, privacy, and how NextOnCall fits into your workflow.
Getting Started
Do I have to change my main business phone number?
No. You keep your existing office number. You simply set your office phone system to forward to your unique NextOnCall routing number. You only have to set this up once. We handle the routing from there.
What happens if I need to swap the on-call person last minute?
Our "Instant Swap" feature allows admins or team members to change the active responder in seconds from any web browser. The system updates the routing logic immediately—no need to touch your office phone settings.
Medical & Privacy
Is my staff's personal cell phone number visible to callers?
Never. NextOnCall acts as a "masking layer." The caller only sees your office or business number. When your staff returns a call through the system, their personal number remains hidden.
Is the system HIPAA-compliant?
We prioritize privacy. We do not store patient health information (PHI) or record conversation content. We only log call metadata (timestamps, duration) required for connection. Formal HIPAA/BAA support is on our roadmap for a future release.
Technical & Reliability
How reliable is the service?
NextOnCall is hosted on GoDaddy’s premium infrastructure for high availability. Our backend uses a PostgreSQL database engine to ensure zero-latency schedule checks, and our telephony is powered by Twilio, the industry standard for carrier-grade communication.
Is there a log of who answered the call?
Yes. Every call creates an audit trail in your dashboard. You can see exactly when the call came in, who it was routed to, and how long the call lasted. This is critical for IT SLA compliance and billing verification.
